Surgery Consult: Generally, my advice is that if you are contemplating intra-abdominal, or intra-peritoneal surgery involving any female organ, a gynecologic surgeon is the expert. On the other hand, surgery outside these cavities is often handled by a general surgeon. Some gynecologic surgeons are trained for your surgery, but will often ask a general surgeon to "scrub in.".

GYN or Gen surgery: Both gyn surgeons and general surgeons deal with surgery of the anterior abdominal wall. Cutaneous endometriosis and scar tissue anterior to the abdominal fascia can be surgically excised with direct repair of the abdominal wall. Some wall defects may require special surgical techniques and or mesh for wall closure. Seek multiple opinions, you have plenty of time for review and options.
