Avoid fluoride: Because the kids frequently swallow this material, you want to avoid Fluoride toothpaste until they are about 3 & you have cautioned them to spit it out. The ingested Fluoride can interfere with bone formation & cause irregular enamel formation on teeth yet to emerge.

No Fluoride is Best: It is best to avoid Fluoride until you know your child can spit out the excess toothpaste, toothpaste with Fluoride is good to help keep our teeth strong (hard), but the brushing/flossing technique is the most important part of keeping the teeth and gums healthy. All you need is about 1/2 a pea size of toothpaste on your brush. Brand is not as important as taste when it comes to kids.

It is Standard of Care that ALL children have 1st Dental Exam no later than 1st b'day. Loger you wait, greater theirs the 1st visit will be to Rx a problem. Suggest you see a pediatric dental specialist (Pedodontist) for all the same reasons you see a pediatric medical specialist. May be a bit early for non-fluoridated (until age 3) t-paste. Ask the Dentist for fluoride regimen as per your area.
