I have frequent uti's. took macrobid (sensitive for it) for 7 days. uti back 2 days later - dr. wants me to take 2 (100mg) 3x a day for 5 days.?

Judgment call: Usual dose of Macrobid for UTI is 100mg 2x a day for 7 days. When UTI comes back soon after, it may be an incompletely treated UTI or it may be a new uti. 2 days after, it is likely incompletely treated so number of days should be increased, but i wouldn't increase the dose above recommended. If new uti, the new bug may be resistant. If you have low kidney function, Macrobid isn't as effective.
