Not easy: It is important for her to learn as much as she can about the process, but from a dental provider...No offense. My kids will listen to others better at times as well. She needs to know why it is important and especially the potential complications if not done. Make sure she knows that there is no better time than in early teen years to get this all done. Best of luck..Not an easy task.

Need Consultation: Consult with a dentist that does orthopedic appliances in addition to orthodontics (braces).

Need her age: The requirement of orthodontics is space. Too much and you have gaps. Too little and it needs to be created by expanding bone, shaving teeth or removing them. If concerned or question the options you were given to consider, get a second/third opinion. You are the adult-need to make the decision under 18; if child <18, good luck--it's her mouth.

Show concern+support: It seems like the biggest problem in this case is her fear and apprehension rather than her dental problems. My suggestion would be to tell her how concerned you are for her health and well being, not only now but over the long term. Perhaps the problem was with the specific dentist and the chemistry wasn't right. You may have to give her some time and not force the issue. Keep trying but gently.

Fear factor: Your child needs to be educated, comforted, and guided. Have to find out why she's afraid and address that issue. Need to give her support and guidance, and sometimes time to get used to the idea. Kids don't have the education or life experiences to make competent health decisions, that's why they have parents. Ask the orthodontic specialist for help.
