Glaucoma research : Glaucoma is one condition that has ongoing research. We still don't know enough about causation and control. We have made giant strides in the last ten years but there is more to be learnt. It's an exciting time to practice ophthalmology !

See eye doc: The drops used for glaucoma are pretty remarkable these days in that they lower eye pressure with minimal side effects. The slt laser is also very safe and effective. In the future, glaucoma will be addressed more as a circulation issue and might even be treated with pills. There is testing happening to identify the gene.
