Research ongoing: Because the elevated pressure in a sensitive eye causes damage to the nerves at the back of the eye, much work is done on factors to protect these nerves and some success is present in laboratory work. Stem cell work is still far off, mostly because the defect in glaucoma is still not known. It appears to be the cells in outflow but it may be extracellular. Stay tuned.
