Impossible to day: The biggest reason (no pun intended) for an enlarging tummy is fat accumulation (pannus), but in a drinker, liver enlargement and abdominal fluid accumulation (ascites) may occur. If your dad is unwilling to get help, the rest of the family may get their own help through a family therapist and alanon meetings. Sometimes, family interventions can help motivate people to address their addictions.
