I am from south india. my father(age - 78) has trouble urinating. did ultrasound abdomen scan and the doctor told there is a problem with his prostate gland(cystitis, mild prostatomegaly, complex cystic lesion in prostate). is big surgery required?

Not necessarily. He should consult a urologist. Medications may be sufficient to resolve the matter. If he needs surgery, it could be done through the urethra without opening up the abdomen.

84 years. Scan shows Urinary Wall distended, gross thickening of bladder wall 18 to 20 mm. Cystitis and Prostatomegaly. Occult blood in urine routine.

My recent ultrasound findings says I have thickened urinary bladder wall (7 mm) Report conclusion: suggestive of cystitis. My doc said I have UTI based on the urinalysis ( WBC plenty, 0-2 RBC). Is the thickening bladder wall due to UTI? is it mild?
