Genetic mutation: Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (mthfr) is the rate-limiting enzyme in the methyl cycle, and it is encoded by the mthfr gene. Genetic variation in this gene influences susceptibility to occlusive vascular disease, colon cancer, leukemia and neural tube defects. I am not aware of any relationship between mthfr levels and problems with epidural punctures.
