A member asked:

I had a very painful renal ultrasound today and since have had continued aching in back area that won't quit, what's going on?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not clear: The ultrasound waves for the exam are not pain producing. The pressure required to study the kidneys may cause discomfort. The pain may be in the kidney such as infection or obstruction, however, structures in the vicinity such as overlying muscles may also be painful during the exam. Consult your doctor regarding the persistent pain.
