Many causes: Insomnia may be the inability to initiate or maintain sleep; you may also wake up too early and not be able to get back to sleep. The doctor will investigate possible causes of which type of insomnia you have. You may be prescribed medication like Lunesta (eszopiclone) or ambien. If you are depressed or anxious, then you may need a medication like Lexapro or zoloft to fix your sleep problem.
