Well....: What did you fracture? The end bone in the big toe may have been injured. We're x-rays taken ? You may just have an ingrown nail

X-ray: If you're concerned, i'd get an x-ray. Hard-soled shoe for a few weeks is the treatment if broken and non-displaced.

Possibly: Especially if the bone fractured was the toe, or possibly from an ingrown toenail or possibly from a subungual exostosis is which is a spur under the nail.

Causes may include: trauma (fracture, ligamentous tear, arthritis), infection, metabolic conditions (gout) , musculoskeletal or biomechanical abnormality, or a neurologic conditions (neuropathy).
