Yes: Neurontin (generic name gabapentin) is extremely well-tolerated. As with all medications, some people may have a true allergy; but this is rare. The most common side effect I have seen is sedation, but this is more likely in frail, elderly patients.

Yes it is safe, but: Doesn't work well to prevent migraine headaches, and is not fda approved for that purpose. Other far better meds are available. May work well for several nerve pain problems, but has a maximal effective dose of 2400 mg daily, and Lyrica (pregabalin) may be more useful.
