Nerve irritation: Numbness or tingling, similar to "pins and needles" is most commonly caused by nerve irritation of some sort. Diabletes for example can cause nerve damage and peripheral neuropathy. A pinching nerve in your back, hip, knee or ankle can cause toe numbness. Sometines, poor circulation, affecting the nerves can be the cause. If this persists, check with your doctor. Good luck!
