Different process: Type 1 is basically diabetes from immune destruction of your pancreas leading to Insulin deficiency. Type 2 is due to your body developing Insulin resistance. There's a lot more to it. But that's the basics.

Type 1..: Requires Insulin to live type 2 can often be controlled with diet, exercise pills;sometimes need Insulin for better control, but won't pass away if no Insulin unless very poorly controlled.

Differences: Type1 diabetics have no insulin, thus the treatment is to give back insulin. Type 2 diabetics have variable amounts of insulin, it's just their Insulin don't work very well, thus the treatment is to give drugs to make the Insulin works better (more sensitive) or give additional Insulin to the body.
