As good as drops: About 80% of patients will have a 20-30% drops in pressure in "regular" open angle glaucoma. Slt is repeatable. It is not for all patients. Patients with closed angle or narrow angle glaucoma, history of inflammation (uveitis) in the eye or other types of glaucoma a are not candidates.

80% get 20% lowering: The general rule of thumb is that SLT effectively lowers the IOP 20% in 80% of patients. For patients interested in avoiding the nuisance, expense and side effect of topical glaucoma medication SLT can be an excellent alternative. It must be understood that SLT alone may not be adequate to control your pressure indefinitely and medication may need to be added or SLT may need to be repeated later .
