Change something.: Perhaps you need to change your health provider. A hypnotherapist might be able to help more than meds for you. Psychiatrists began using hypnosis for ptsd during wwii, with great success. 4 years is a long time to struggle with this debilitating condition.

2nd opinion needed: If any psychiatric condition including ptsd does not seem better with even 1 year of continuous treatment, it is best to seek a second opinion, preferably from someone known for their diagnostic and treatment skills for that condition. To learn more about ptsd and it's treatment, check out international society of traumatic stress studies at istss.Org.

To consider...: Have you fully explained to your prescribing provider that your sxs are not adequately controlled.? If not, then do so. Are you only depending on meds for treatment? If so, consider adding in other forms of treatment such as cognitive processing therapy, emdr, group therapy, psychoed or acupuncture. If your ptsd is complex & severe -it is important to work with an experienced psychiatrist.

Meds; psychotherapy: Get a full psychiatric evaluation to assess for PTSD symptoms, and see if different medications are warranted. Next, find a reputable psychotherapist nearby who specializes in PTSD. Generally speaking, meds and psychotherapy together are the best approach.
