Not usually...but..: If asking about prophylactic antibiotics prior to dental tx, yes it is taken before dental work. This does not include needing to take it afterward for routine care. However, depending on the procedure, for example if you had surgery or something more invasive, your doctor may want to put you on the extra 5 days to prevent a post op infection. Consider indication for axbx and risk for infection.

Procedure & reason?: I can't answer your question without knowing your medical and dental history, the procedure that requires antibiotics, and the reason why antibiotics would be required or suggested in the first place. Every situation is different and therefore so is the protocol or individual preferences of the treating doctor. This would be a decision that your doctor should make. Risks vs benefits?
