Proper sleep hygiene: Proper sleep hygiene is important. Nothing in bed but sleep or sex. No eating, watching tv, playing with computer, or reading in bed. If you do this, your subconscious will never be ready for sleep. Nothing stimulating for at least 2-3 hrs. Before bed. Wake up at the same time each day and go to bed at same time each night. Your body needs a routine. Once you do this, your mind will relax/sleep.
