No symptoms: Your thyroid can be underactive but just working harder so that there are no obvious symptoms. At the very least this needs to be watched closely as it tends to worsen over time, and will usually be treated.

Borderline hypo: It is when your directly measured thyroid hormone levels are normal but your tsh (pituitary hormone) is elevated suggesting very mild hypothyroidism. We dont usually have to treat this unless the patient has symptoms or the tsh level is > 10. Also if a woman is pregnant we always want the tsh to be < 2.5 so we would treat it in that case.
