No: A starting dose of melatonin is 3 mg. I tell my patients that they may slowly increase the dose, as needed, to a maximum of 9mg. The lowest effective dose is always the best. In general, melatonin, by itself, without addressing "sleep hygiene" may not be adequate.

Melatonin.: I agree wtih starting low to see which dose of melatonin is effective for you. You can purchase 10mg slow release melatonin. It is most likely to be effective if you use it with sleep hygiene. 1. Keep a regular bedtime & wakening time (to include weekends). Get up the same time each day, regardless of what time you fell asleep. 2. Make a regular, relaxing bedtime routine. Relaxing rituals prior.
