Why?: Sounds like you are not fully utilizing / benefitting from either's expertise. In theory (at least), they should both be working toward the same goals, but treatment frequency may not be adequate. You should discuss each others' treatments between your providers so they know what is going on.

Inform: It is not "bad" but it would be a good idea to keep each practitioner informed of all of the treatment modalities you are using.

Proven vs unproven: By definition, "alternative" is different than modern western medicine. Generally any drug, herb, treatment, or procedure that stands up to rigorous scientific scrutiny is included in modern medicine. The problem is that many alternative practices, herbs etc do not stand up to scientific scrutiny and cannot be shown to work. They therefore remain "alternative". Be careful and watch your wallet.
