It depends: Any throat pain that is present for 2 weeks should be evaluated by a physician. A "hole in your tonsil" could be many different things. If you have had fevers, chills, fatigue, etc then it most likely is infectious in origin. (which should be evaluated if persistent). Apthous ulcers can occur around the tonsils and are self limited. If it does not resolve within 2 weeks it should be evaluated.

A hole in your tonsil can trap food that can then decompose and create a cascade of issues including throat pain. Gargling twice a day will help and consulting an ENT specialist to see if perhaps tonsillectomy is the right course of action.
