Not normal...: Nocturnal heartburn is a symptom of gerd (gastroesophageal reflux disease) that is fairly common. Standard recommendations for prevention include avoidance of eating or drinking for 2 hours before bedtime and elevation of the head of the bed 6 - 8 inches (if necessary). Diet and lifestyle changes along with acid-suppressive meds are also used. If this is a recurrent problem, go see your doctor.
