Should be: When you say jumped on amox, hopefully you meant 500 mg. Q. 6 h. One thing about dental abscesses is that they have no blood supply so getting abx into them requires a fairly high blood level so they can reach the needed location. Depending on where the abscess is, spreading along a fascial plane is the main thing to avoid. Timely extraction should keep you safe.

Prof care asap!: I'm not sure why you would take both medications. It sounds like you are self prescribing these antibiotics, which is always a bad idea. Sometimes inadequate doses of antibiotics will do you more harm than good. Call\see your dentist for proper professional advice and treatment. Infections can spread even while on antibiotics without proper drainage and treatment. The sooner is better!

Yes and No: Being on the antibiotic can help keep the bacteria from spreading. However, you always need to be aware that even though on the abx the infection can spread. Keep an eye on swelling, and redness, as well as making sure you do not develop a fever.

Seek evaluation: A dental abscess can present in different ways. From a small fluctuant abscess, to more severe acute apical abscess with fascial space involvement. You are likely taking Amoxicillin and metronizadole (flagyl). My best advice is to be evaluated by a dentist as soon as possible to address the cause of the abscess. Dental abscesses can be serious, even fatal if left untreated.

Should be: If you are taking at least 500mg of Amoxicillin 3 -4 times a day, and you are having the tooth extracted soon, you should be ok assuming you do not have any major swelling.

Never spread: Tooth abscess never spread from one tooth to another unless the abscess was not treated and allow to destroy the bone of adjacent teeth. However this should take a very long time.

Not yet: Once your symptoms resolve completely and the infected site has healed you should be safe. However, the infection can always get worse. With today's treatments and antibiotics treatment of tooth infections is a routine procedure.

Yes: Usually the antibiotic will stop an infection from spreading...Question did you get this from a dr or was this some left over medication...Not a good idea to use old medication as it may not be effective. Suggest you get new prescription.

Might be: If you had the meds. Prescribed for you as a part of the treatment before the extraction then it's fine , but if you just took some left over meds.. Then you might need to go to a dentist to get the proper medication prescribed
