Mucous plugs?...: It sounds like you have a dry mouth at night from mouth breathing. With less saliva to lubricate the teeth and tongue you'll get dead skin cells, food particles, and mucous dried in your mouth. Keep a glass of water by your bed and hydrate. The little balls on the tonsils are mucous plugs in the tonsillar crypts. Try scraping your tongue with a tongue scraper or the underside of a metal spoon.

Could be: It could be excessive plaque or a candidiasis infection on your tongue. There could be something trapped in your tonsils. I would suggest seeing a dentist and physician to deal with both issues. You might try scrapping your tongue to see if that helps with your tongue. I am assuming you are cleaning your teeth daily...
