Hydrocephalus: Enlarged ventricles represent hydrocephalus. In a fetus, the next thing we would want to carefully evaluate is the spine for any evidence of a neural tube defect (like spina bifida) we would also try to carefully assess the brain for any structural abnormalities. If the lateral ventricles of the brain are 10mm or wider then there is generally felt to be venticulomegaly and hydrocephalus.
