what does asymmetry in brain ventricles on fetal ultrasound mean?

Dr. Arnold Friedman

Not much: If that is the only abnormality not much, ventricles can be slightly different in size and be normal.
Dr. Anthony Filly
Radiology 26 years experience
Depends : What it actually means is that the two fluid filled cavities in the brain called ventricles are slightly different in size. It is important only if one of them is too big (over 10 mm. ).

Yes: Usually doctors have a very good reason for getting a CT of the brain in a pregnant woman like checking for bleeding or tumors in the brain. For very good reasons, you can and probably need to get a CT of the brain. The radiation exposure will be low.

What can I do if my abdominal ultrasound shows that my baby is in the breech position?

3 doctor answers5 doctors weighed in
Dr. Robert Benner
Obstetrics and Gynecology 33 years experience
Discuss your options: If the baby is breech at an early ultrasound, this has no significance. If it is in the last 3-4 weeks, then you have some choices to make. The baby can be turned to head down by a procedure called a version. This works about half the time. Some doctors will advise a c-section, and a few may even still offer a vaginal breech delivery depending on the circumstances. The baby might even turn itself!
A 33-year-old member asked:

Can my fetus be more susceptible to infection or disease if I am taking an immunosuppressive like cyclosporine?

3 doctor answers4 doctors weighed in
Dr. Sheila Goodman
Specializes in Obstetrics and Gynecology
No: Very minimal amounts of Cyclosporine actually cross the placenta. Your baby should not be at any increased risk of infection. There have been reports of an increased risk of preterm delivery and smaller babies. Some of that may be related to whatever condition the woman was on Cyclosporine for.
