A member asked:

How is the distal tube of vp shunt placed in the abdominal cavity? what is the incision for in the process? describe the procedure please?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Distal tubing: There are several methods used including endoscopic placement with only one or two small incisions. I like to make a small incision in the abdomen which is opened to the peritoneum. I then place a shunt passer in the peritoneum and over the liver into the subcutaneous (fat) space and pass it up into the neck to join the proximal shunt catheter.
