Referred Pain: A tooth or gum abscess can cause referred pain. The back molar teeth are in close proximity to the ear. The lower jaw nerve, which supplies blood in molar teeth, has a branch going to the ears. Some times it can be a confusing situation for the patient as both teeth and ear are feeling pain at the same time and only dentist can reveal the right reason after going through certain x-ray and exam.

Wisdom tooth: You may have an impacted lower wisdom tooth which has become infected. Ask your dentist to take an x-ray of the area to determine if there is a problem.
