ER: His cough is severe enough to cause him to pass out means his asthma is not controlled, go to the er immediately.

You must act ASAP: Sounds like the asthma is progressing, and with the coughing, maybe an infection is present. The fact that he is losing consciousness raises concern of hypoxia. This cannot be handled at home. Head to the nearest hospital now.
