No: Fibromyalgia does not cause crippling deformities. It is very important to stay active, participate in social activities, and keep a positive outlook as the pain and fatigue of fibromyalgia can cause depression and poor physical conditioning. There are many diseases that are worse but fibromyalgia can be difficult.

Yes: ? about "crippling" nature of fibromyalgia (FM). FM can be progressive & some sufferers become bedridden & disabled. IMO, FM pain arises from strained & spastic soft tissues, which manifest pain upon physical activity. Inactivity protects from pain arousal, but soft tissues become weaker from disuse. This chronic pain mechanism begets itself. Eventually total inactivity becomes patient's life.
