Stop Alcohol: Alcohol is the commonest cause of elevated liver enzymes and you should stop drinking. Women are more susceptible to alcohol than men. You did not state your age, but in case you intend to get pregnant, abstain from alcohol entirely. Stop drinking entirely and recheck you liver function tests in about 6 months.

Check hepatitis B,C: While alcohol is the commonest cause of liver disease, hepatitis b, c, some other viral illnesses, autoimmune disorders and many medications should also be considered and checked if suspected on a detailed history and examination.

It could be: Your liver enzymes are only about twice the upper limits of normal, which is not very high. In addition, in alcohol-induced liver disease the SGOT (ast) is typically higher than the SGPT (alt). In your case, with a higher sgpt, i would strongly agree with testing for viral hepatitis, as well as other potential causes of liver disease.
