Several: Endodontic (root canal) therapy is needed to treat infections within the pulpal system (the nerve) inside of the tooth. These can be caused by: tooth decay, injury, fractures or trauma to the tooth or just chronic pain from inflammation. Some times a root canal is needed prior to placement of a post and buildup, to increase retentive area for placement of a crown.

Several: Deep restorations, cavities, trauma, periodontal disease, and even cracked teeth can lead to root canals. Please search for an endodontist for an evaluation.

Depends: Injuries to the tooth that involve the pulp (nerve) require root canal treatment. This could include deep cavities, broken teeth, gum infections that travel under the tooth to the pulp. There are even times when prosthetic treatment can dictate the need for an intentional root canal treatment.
