Often but.........: It's often better to have the tooth crowned after rct, but it is not always necessary. Each case is different. Ask your own dentist what he\she recommends and why.

I say no!: Some dentists say all teeth treated endodontically should be crowned. I disagree. I have seen endo treated teeth last more than 40 years after endo treatment without crowns. Some teeth really should have the crowns done. It depends on the mechanics of the situation.

It Depends: It depends on what tooth it is, anterior or posterior. It also depends on how much tooth structure was missing and replaced with a restorative material. It also depends what the cause of the root canal treatment was--tooth fracture, decay, large filling, etc.

Depends: The american assoc. Of endodontists recommends that all posterior teeth that receive root canals have cuspal protection. That means a crown or onlay! this prevents fractures and tooth loss.In anterior teeth, it depends on the integrity of the tooth, presence of previous fillings, occlusion and other factors . Hence it may not be necessary on some anterior teeth. In children, we sometimes wait.
