Removable things can come loose and get lost. In the case of metallic object, they can conduct electrical current and cause burns (for example, the cautery used to control bleeding uses electrical current).

No: Obviously it depends where the piercings are. Or nursing and anesthesia may have separate policies regarding this, over riding what your surgeon says.
