Tapering Effexor (venlafaxine): The best approach is to work with your psychiatrist on the problem that led to being prescribed Effexor (venlafaxine) in the first place, to make sure this is resolved. If advisable, your doctor may help you develop a schedule for tapering Effexor (venlafaxine) and carefully tracking your response. Please know that if Effexor (venlafaxine) doesn't seem to be helping you, there are other medications which may be a better fit for you.

Slowly: Best to be tapered off Effexor (venlafaxine) with supervision of a health provider. When almost to end dosing, often use brief Prozac bridge which helps you transition slowly off completely and avoid any obnoxious side effects at all. You may notice nausea, dizziness, brain zaps, shivers, headaches, lack of focus, and flu like symptoms. Daily dose cut back 10% weekly-some take out granules and re-close!
