Patience.: It takes anywhere from 2-6 weeks on the right dosage to feel the benefits of antidepressants. The dose will depend on the severity, duration and the presence of co-morbid factors. It is important to have CBT as part of your therapy, not just medications to help you attain the benefits.

Depends: Some people do become more productive and less depressed on 75mg, but some need to go up to the 150mg dose. It can take several weeks before you would be bumped up to the 150mg dose if the 75mg isn't working and then from there it still may take several weeks to a month or more before you feel the full effects of the medication. That's just the nature of those medications-they need time to build up

Effexor (venlafaxine) XR: Use sustained release; start 37.5 mg/day; increase slowly to maximum of 75 mg tid (3X per day). Takes about 3-4 weeks to get desirable effect. Effexor (venlafaxine) XR blocks the reuptake of norepinephrine, increased blood pressure is a potential problem. Ask your doctor for more information.
