Scaling and root planing is the treatment where the hygienist or dentist attempts to remove the bacteria in the gum pocket. Research shows that all of the bacteria present at the start of s&rp remain at the end. They just need a chance to regrow unless you have a method like perio protect that kills the bacteria.
