Many: High myopia is associated with many retinal problems. Patients are more prone to retinal tears & detachments. Patients experience this as flashes floaters or change their side vision. Cracks can develop in the central retinal region called the macula & this can result in central visual loss or distortion in central vision. In addition abnormal blood vessels can grow that can also scar the macula.

High myopia: High myopia has been associated with an increased risk of retinal detachment and a slightly increased risk of glaucoma. Some people with high myopia will also have a continued change in their glasses prescription over the years, and it may not stabilize as much as those with a lower prescription. It is important to have periodic eye exams, and seek help immediately with any problems.
