Some help here..: Tmj is a group of disorders related to the jaw joint. A lot of the time the symptoms will go away on its own with a little time and some pain meds if needed. If not, see your dentist or a facial pain specialist who can diagnose and treat the problem. A local specialist may be found at www.Aaop.Org or www.Aacfp.Org. Having an accurate diagnosis is the key to proper treatment.

No quick cure: A balance exists between how your teeth fit together, how the joints function and how the muscles move and support the movement of he lower jaw to the upper and how the head and neck function. When this system is compromised pain, joint noise and other symptoms occur. The first aspect must be to determine what are the problems and what compromises caused the problems. Use reversible diagnostics.

See your dentist: Tmj problems can result from a number of different causes. You should have a thorough clinical exam performed by your dentist with the appropriate studies to determine if your problem is truly a TMJ problem.

A few things: Common TMJ symptoms: pain/tenderness of face, jaw joint area, ear, neck and shoulders, limited mouth opening, jaws that get "stuck" or "lock" in the open- or closed-mouth position, jaw joint clicking, popping, or grating sounds, , painful chewing, ear symptoms (hearing loss, imbalance, ear ringing, stuffiness). Complicated problem to sort out. See a board certified oral & maxillofacial surgeon.
