Tmj treatment : Have an evaluation from a dentist who treats TMJ with functional orthodontics. The majority of TMJ problems are directly related to a patients bite, and by correcting the bite with functional appliances and braces, TMJ problems are usually eliminated.

See a dentist: Tmj can be a very painful condition. See your dentist to discuss your situation. There are many factors involved in TMJ dysfunction. Your dentist may refer you to a TMJ specialist for treatment if it appears your problem is more involved than simple remedies would cover. You may need a splint, soft diet, massage to the area, warm moist heat, relaxation techniques. There are may treatments.

A few things: Depends on symptoms, and cause of symptoms. 3 signs of TMJ dysfunction: joint noises, joint pain & limited oral opening. Self treat with soft diet, jaw exercises, massage, heat/cold, OTC pain meds. A splint or physical therapy would be next. Occasionally muscle relaxants, biofeedback. Xrays are done for diagnosis. Surgery usually reserved for serious symptoms not responsive to other treatments.
