Tendon?: It may be just a sore tendon, which is an attachment from one of the neck muscles to the bone by the ear. It isn't very likely to be a vein issue in your age or based on the location. If it is really tender right at the bony area slightly behind and below the ear, that makes it likely to be a tendon. You can try Ibuprofen for a few days and see if it goes away.

Hello. I am a 37 year old woman. A few days ago I found a swollen bump under my skin on my left cheek near my ear. Over the next three days it spread to behind my ear and down my neck. It seems to be several swollen bumps that are connected and are painful to the touch. My ear doesnt hurt, just the bumps. Otherwise I am a little stuffed up and tired but I feel fine.
