Time for the doctor: A person with painful ear, jawline, and neck swelling should see see her primary care doctor to be diagnosed and treated. If she has no primary care doctor to go to, she can go to the ER. The doctor can examine to see if this is a tooth abscess, a lymph node abscess, ear infection, skin infection, or something else. Antibiotic treatment will help, if the problem is a bacterial infection.
