A member asked:

Do blood cancers such as leukemia or lymphoma increase the risk of sudden cardiac arrest?

Possible...: The most probable causes of cardiac arrest in someone has leukemia or lymphoma would not be from the disease itself, but by the treatment. When initial treatment is begun for either using chemo, the cancer cells burst open releasing potassium (k). Too high k in the blood can lead to cardiac arrest. This is a known complication of tumor lysis syndrome and can be treated.

No, but: Some chemotherapy drugs may have cardiac side effects.

Yes: Indirectly - circulating lymphoma and leukemia cells can make blood hyper coagulable (more thick and likely to clot). If a clot is formed or travels to a coronary artery, the risk of sudden death is very high.
