CBC is a short: Hand that confuses. It looks at the red blood cell count and white blood cell count and commonly describes hemoglobin, hematocrit and mchc, MCV indices to guess at anemia cause. The differential segregates the white cell count into neutrophils and lymphocytes. If normal, you don;t have leukemia. If not, marrow and closr analysis necessary.

More info...: CBC with diff tells you what types of white blood cells are present and what percentage they make up of the total white blood cell count. Leukemias can be detected with a CBC with diff. However, you can have leukemia and have a normal CBC with diff. A bone marrow aspirate and/or biopsy is the gold standard test to diagnose leukemia.
