See MD: Ankle injuries can be minor or difficult (it is a very complex anatomic structure). Swelling is to be expected for quite some time, as inflammation in that area is exacerbated by the fact that it is a weight bearing area, and gravity itself lends itself to pooling of fluids in the lower extremeties. See an md, good luck!
