Infection and gout: And tenosynovitis are three things that can occur quickly. If you can't bend, are getting more swollen, your finger is flexed a little or there is pain with passive motion you need to get medical attention. It is hard to go beyond this without more details.

Swelling in a finger: May be asign of infection, trauma , gout, inflammatory changes. You can also have a small thrombus or clot. If you have pain that develops , swelling in the whole finger, pain with passive motion, a flexed finger then it may be progressing and you need to get evaluated.
