Disease of the chest: Vats stand for video-assisted thoracic surgery or minimally invasive surgery similar to laparoscopic surgery. Through small incisions and usually a high definition camera, many types of procedures can be performed. Such as removing cancer of the lung, esophagus and other chest organs. Removing unwanted fluid around the lung, and performing biopsies of organs in the chest.
