A member asked:

My husband has had two spontaneous pneumothoraxes on the right side. second time was treated using vats and pleuridesis. how common would it be for the left side to collapse? the surgery was over two years ago. has pain, but unsure if pinched nerve.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Could occur on left: Tall, slender males are prone to pneumothorax. A pinched intercostal nerve causes sharp, fleeting chest pain with a deep breath. I would expect associated shortness of breath with a pneumothorax unless it's a small one.. Your husband is quite familiar with pneumothorax symptoms. Have him see a physician and get a chest xray if chest pains persist.
